More Than Clothes

My journey as a fashion designer has been a deeply personal and evolving process, shaped by my time at Pratt Institute and my passion for creativity. At Pratt, I’ve been immersed in an environment that fosters experimentation, challenges conventions, and encourages designers to push boundaries. This dynamic space has given me the freedom to explore the technical and artistic aspects of fashion, while also inspiring me to think critically about the stories I want to tell through my work. Each project I’ve undertaken has not only refined my skills but also helped me uncover my voice as a designer—a voice that I am continually shaping and redefining.

Fashion, for me, is a form of storytelling. It’s a way to communicate emotions, ideas, and perspectives that go beyond words. At Pratt, I’ve delved deeply into the relationship between clothing and identity, exploring how garments can serve as powerful tools for self-expression and cultural commentary. I am fascinated by the interplay of material, texture, and form, and I constantly seek to experiment with these elements in ways that challenge traditional norms. Whether it’s through bold silhouettes, unexpected fabric pairings, or intricate details, I aim to create pieces that feel alive—pieces that evoke emotion and leave an impression.

The process of developing my design style has been one of exploration and discovery. It’s not something I’ve arrived at all at once, but rather a path I’ve walked step by step, project by project. I’ve learned to embrace experimentation and the inevitable trial and error that comes with it. Not every idea works, and not every risk pays off, but I’ve found that those moments of uncertainty often lead to the most exciting breakthroughs. Through this process, I’ve started to shape a style that feels authentic to who I am—one that balances bold, conceptual ideas with an emphasis on craftsmanship and detail.

At the heart of my design philosophy is a desire to connect with people. Fashion, in my view, is about more than aesthetics—it’s about creating experiences and telling stories that resonate. I’m deeply interested in how clothing can make people feel—how it can empower them, bring them comfort, or help them express parts of themselves that words cannot. This human-centered approach drives much of my work and pushes me to think beyond the surface, considering how each piece I create can hold meaning for the wearer.

Pratt has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of what it means to be a designer. The collaborative environment has taught me the value of diverse perspectives, while the challenges of rigorous coursework have pushed me to develop a strong work ethic and a commitment to innovation. Each critique, conversation, and creative exploration has been a stepping stone in my journey, helping me grow not only as a designer but also as an individual.

As I continue on this path, I am motivated by a desire to keep evolving. I see my work as a reflection of who I am—my thoughts, experiences, and aspirations—but also as a contribution to the broader world of fashion. I want to create pieces that are meaningful, that challenge perceptions, and that inspire others. My journey is far from complete, but I am excited to keep learning, experimenting, and growing, knowing that each step brings me closer to realizing my vision as a fashion designer.
